Cascina Gavetta
Cascina Gavetta is a historic wine estate in the heart of Novello, one of the most characterful villages of the Langhe in Piedmont. The Cogno family has worked here since the early 20th century with a deep passion for tradition and terroir. According to local stories, even Napoleon once stopped at the farm for a glass of wine, a nice illustration of how rich the estate's history is.
The vineyards of Cascina Gavetta lie on carefully selected plots where Nebbiolo and the rare Nascetta can truly shine. The family applies a very strict selection in the vineyard, which keeps total production limited to around 15,000 bottles a year. That small scale gives wines with pronounced character, finesse and authenticity.
Besides their focus on Nebbiolo, the grape that made Piedmont world famous, the Cogno family is actively committed to preserving the almost forgotten Nascetta. This native grape produces aromatic, mineral wines that are regaining popularity today and hold a unique place among the wines of the Langhe.
Diversity in farming is essential for Cascina Gavetta. Hazelnut trees grow between the vineyards and the family even hunts for truffles, a typical feature of the region. The result is a lively ecosystem that adds to the quality and expression of their wines.
At Il Sorriso Di Vino we chose Cascina Gavetta for their authentic approach, respect for tradition and exceptional quality. Their wines embody everything that makes the Langhe so unique and fit perfectly with our vision of honest wine full of character.
About the Winery
My philosophy is to produce excellent wines in complete harmony with nature. Organic farming should not push us into a corner as "special" producers; instead, it should be an extra guarantee of quality and of protection for the consumer.
I want to measure myself against the world of conventional wine and prove that you can become great while respecting nature, the environment and yourself.
It is a personal choice, sometimes difficult and discouraging, but in those moments a walk through the vineyards and the view of the surrounding hills give me faith in a better future.
Looking ahead, I want to share my experience of personal fulfilment with new generations and invite them to commit themselves, to do good work and to do it in the most natural way possible.
Marina Marcarino
These are the convictions of Marina Marcarino, who was destined for the vineyards from childhood. Exuberant, curious and hyperactive, she developed a strong bond with farming life thanks to her paternal grandmother. Her grandmother took her to the countryside and introduced her to a culture tied to the natural rhythms and methods of agriculture.
Her deep bond with the land grew even stronger in 1982. Marina was inspired by organic farming, in which she saw a new and authentic way to connect fully with her vineyards. She built a relationship of “mutual respect” by taking absolute naturalness as her starting point.
The first steps were hard: her first harvest was lost entirely. But with determination Marina kept following her choices and refined her techniques, year after year. Today, after almost 30 years of experience, Cantina Punset is a leading Italian estate in organic vineyard management, with excellent results.
